Measured by hand; allow 1–3 cm (0.4–1.2 in) tolerance. Size by her height first, then check the bust — the belt has to land at her natural waist for the tiers to sit right. Between two sizes, take the larger: extra length disappears into the tiers, a tight bodice does not.

Questions moms ask

• Does she need a petticoat or hoop under it? No. Organza is stiff enough to hold its own shape, and the three tiers stack so that each one props up the one beneath it. Adding a petticoat would only make it wider than it is meant to be.
