Mother's Size Guide

Read the last column carefully: this is a high-low dress, and the only length the factory gives is the back one. Hollow to Back Hem is measured down the back, from the hollow at the base of your neck to the end of the trailing hem — it is not how long the dress is at the front. The front hem is short on every size and sits above the knee. Bust, waist and hips are body measurements, so measure yourself and read across; size by bust first, and if your measurements land in two different rows, take the larger. The back length grows with the size — 58" at US 2 up to 61" at US 16 — so if you are tall for your measurements, sizing up is also what keeps the train on the floor. Measured by hand, so allow 1–3 cm (0.4–1.2 in) either way.

Girl's Size Guide

Sizing her is a different decision from sizing yourself, because you are fitting a child who is still growing into a dress with a hem she has to walk on. Start with her height — the heights listed are the top of each size, so a girl measuring 45" takes the 6, not the 5 — then check her chest against the bust column. Hollow to Back Hem is her train, not her front hem: hold that number against her height and you will see how much tulle will actually lie on the floor behind her, and her front hem stays at or just above the knee at every size. Between sizes, take the larger — a little extra train is easy, a tight bodice is not. Measured by hand, so allow 1–3 cm (0.4–1.2 in) either way.

Will both dresses be the same shade of pink? They are made together as one set from the same production run, which is what keeps the two dresses tonally identical. Tulle is dyed in batches, so a mismatch is what happens when the two dresses are bought separately, months apart — ordering them as the set is what prevents it.

Can the women's dress be altered? The bodice can be taken in at the side seams by any tailor, and because it is gathered tulle over a bow belt rather than a rigid corset, small adjustments disappear completely. Do not have the skirt shortened — the length lives in three constructed tiers, and cutting into them changes the shape of the dress rather than just its hem.

Can I sit down and walk in it, or is the train a problem? You can do both. There is no boning and no stiff waistband, so it sits down comfortably at a table, and the short front means your feet are clear on stairs.
